Translations and Country Folders
- DarkLight
The county folder set-up comes pre-configured by the designer, so if you have your site in multiple languages the corresponding country folder will already be there for you to populate.
You can access all your media files by navigating to the county folder, where you can add and edit your media posts in the same manner as the media posts in your default UK folder.
Country folders give you the option to have media items in various languages if you are setting up new media, but you also have the option to translate the original UK item into a different language, where universal fields like ‘Image’ or ‘Document’ will be pre-populated so you don’t have to upload it again.
To add a translation to an existing media item, navigate to the post of interest and click on the relevant county icon in the ‘translations’ column.
A translations page will open to be populated displaying a side-by-side comparison of the existing post and the one you are translating.
A similar approach can be used when translating your categories and tags, by navigating to the categories or tags section and selecting the relevant tag/category to translate.
Alternatively, if you need to add a new media post instead of translating an existing one, you can navigate to the county folder and click the ‘Add’ button. As you are now in the country folder (for this example I will use FR as it is referenced in the screenshots), the media item you create now becomes the original, meaning that when you want to translate this item, it’s going to be the French version you’ll be comparing your translating against.
Once you start populating, you can always add new tags, categories, authors, or speakers as you go, by clicking the red plus button next to each field, and those parameters will be added to your relevant country folder.
