    Article summary

Although this may be a good reason to think that things are broken, it is not always the case.

If you have been making changes to your site and doing a whole site publish yet none of the changes are coming through, it could be a matter of browser cache or a missing tick box.

    Browser Cache

Browser caching is a technique where recently visited web pages and data are temporarily stored in your web browser. When you make changes in these pages, in particular minor ones such as fixing a typo, the browser doesn't always detect these changes, so sees no need to recall the data even if you hit refresh.

You can clear the browser cache, so the browser is forced to request the data from the server and view the latest copy of it, by performing a 'hard refresh'.

Most browsers (Edge, Chrome, Firefox) use the same commands:

Windows:  hold down Ctrl and then press F5 OR hold down Ctrl + ⇧ Shift together and then press R.
Mac:  hold down ⌘ Cmd +⇧ Shift together and then press R.

Full Refresh When Publishing Your Site

If you have performed the hard refresh and your changes still do not appear, now is the time to go back to the CMS.

Whether you are publishing to live or staging, and your changes are not taking hold, ensure you have the 'Full Refresh' ticked as well, before hitting the 'Publish Whole Site Now!' button.

The reason why your changes may not be coming through is that the CMS is designed to detect changes and apply only those changes when you publish your site, in a way it it keeps on building on top of itself. By ticking the 'Full refresh' options, tells the CMS to rebuild the whole site from scratch, meaning you will be getting the latest version of it.

    Please note:
If you are publishing the whole site with a Full Refresh, the process will take longer than the usual. The overall size of the site will be reflect on the time it will take to publish. Additionally, we would advise, especially with larger sites, to carry out a full refresh later in the day when there is less traffic as the site will be offline while it's being built.
