Why can I not Delete an Author or a Category?

When you get this error ‘Item cannot be deleted because it’s in use’, this means that there are some media items associated with those credentials (tags/categories/authors etc.). 

All you need to do is go back and delete the post itself, or change the relevant field so the tag/category/author is no longer linked to that post, and then you are free to delete it.
